January 7, 2004

On January 5, 2004, history was made by the swearing in of the newly elected Secretary-Treasurer of Local 97.

Patricia Ward-Jenkins was sworn in by Principal Officer and President of Local 97, John J. Gerow.

President Gerow spoke to a gathering of friends and relatives of Ms. Jenkins. Among Ms. Jenkins’ friends,           were Chris Silvera, President of the Teamsters National Black Caucus as well as the Mayor of East Orange,       The Honorable Robert Bowsen.

Ms Jenkins resides in East Orange with her family.

"Pat Ward-Jenkins became the first black woman to hold the office of Secretary-Treasurer of Local 97. Prior to that Pat was a Trustee at Local 97 for five (5) years. She is far from being a novice when it comes to representing our members at Local 97.

I look forward to serving along side Pat in the years to come".

"Congratulations, and continued success".

                                                                                                                Fraternally Yours,

                                                                                                                John J. Gerow President
