Presidents' Message

 

Brothers and Sisters:

We are living in, what has to be one of the most dynamic eras in history.

Besides the age of high technology, we are looking at medical improvements (in the way of new medicines). If you have an ailment, they have a pill to help you to get better. Life expectancy is on the rise; 77 years for males and 80 years for women.

The world's economy, as well as America's, is going through the roof, which is wonderful and very desirous. However, it means that someone has to see to it that the rank and file worker receives its fair share of the money. That is our job to do and we are prepared to do it.

Teamsters Local 97 has the expertise to represent almost all kinds of employment; public and private employment. We presently have close to 10,000 members, 4,000 of which are in public employment.

We live in a contradictory world, one that allows CEO's of big companies to receive salaries per year range in the millions of dollars, and in the same world, only permits hard working people to receive (begrudgingly) 3% raises on $20,000 to $25,000 a year salaries. Obviously, a lot of our members make more than $20,000 to $25,000 salaries per year, but it doesn't matter, 3% to 4% is still the magic number.

The absurdity is that the more they make, the more (the Federal Reserve Board) allows them to receive. The sky is the limit.

For those who make less, the same Federal Reserve Board limits the amount of raise money you can receive.

That is the major reason why unions have become more desirous to join. You can not trust the company bosses to share their wealth with you. You need professional representation to negotiate for you.

Local 97, its officers and staff, have 200 years of labor union experience in negotiating, organizing, developing grievances, protecting seniority, preparing and writing contracts. We have our own legal representation (Mets, Schiro & Klien), as well as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters experts behind us, ready to serve you. OSHA violations, Family Leave Act abuses, ADA, name it, we cover it.
